Our next destination is the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, which honors the legacy of the late Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first president and the advocate of its independence. Situated on the site of the former British Polo field where Ghana's independence was proclaimed in 1957, this memorial park features a splendid Marble Mausoleum, serving as the final resting place for Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah.

Visit the Art Centre or the Makola market. The Accra Art Center is a warren of stalls selling arts and crafts. There you would find what is virtually the tourist heaven of Ghana. It has everything from woven kente, cloth, wooden sculptures, bead works, leather bags, earings and other fashion accessories. The are a never ending array of good in many stalls that may you not even be able to shop.


Meanwhile, the Makola Market stands as a prominent hub for commerce and shopping in Accra, Ghana's capital. Offering a diverse range of goods both within the market and along its adjacent streets, from locally crafted items to imports, Makola Market is particularly known for its handmade beads used in jewelry and accessories. Virtually everything you seek is available at Makola Market, provided you know where to look within its bustling confines.

Our next destination is the Legon Botanical Gardens, nestled within the University of Ghana in Accra. Owned by the university and jointly managed by the Department of Botany and Mulch Company Ltd., this expansive garden spans 50 hectares of natural vegetation, established in 1950. Serving as a recreational haven, it features various amenities such as playgrounds, canopy walks, and serene outdoor spaces with lakes. Visitors can engage in a plethora of activities including children's playground fun, high and junior rope courses, canoeing, bird watching, fishing, cycling, and exploring the woodlands.


Day 2 (Accra Exploration & Beaches)

  • Visit W.E.B. Du Bois Center, the final resting place of the African-American scholar.
  • Explore Jamestown, an old colonial district famous for its history and lighthouse.

Lunch:

  • Enjoy traditional Ghanaian dishes like jollof rice and fried plantain at a local eatery.

  • Visit Labadi Beach: Relax and enjoy the coastlines of Accra's most popular beach.

Evening:

Day 3 Accra to Cape Coast (Approx. 2-3 hours drive)

  • Cape Coast Castle: Tour the UNESCO World Heritage site, which was a major center during the transatlantic slave trade. Learn about the history of the castle and the enslaved Africans who passed through it.

  • Elmina Castle: Another key slave trade fortress located 15 minutes from Cape Coast.
  • Visit Kakum National Park: Walk the famous canopy walkway amidst the rainforest.

Evening:

Day 4 (Cape Coast to Takoradi (Western Region))
